Basic & preclinical research

To better understand the molecular mechanisms underlying cancer in order to fuel innovation in prevention and therapeutic research we recommend to:

• Encourage multidisciplinary projects (cancer biology, chemistry, immunology, radiobiology, engineering, computational science, public health).
• Promote high risk–high return projects.
• Promote research in poor prognosis cancers.
• Engage researchers from all EU countries.
• Use ERC funding paradigms to select the most promising bottom-up proposals.
• Facilitate participation of small and medium enterprises and industry.
