History

At the Academy’s inception, 114 highly-renowned scientists and clinicians from all areas of the cancer continuum were selected to be part of the Founding Group of the European Academy of Cancer Sciences.

The Founding Group was responsible for defining the overall objectives of the Academy and addressing issues such as credibility of the institution, membership and governance.

Created under the auspices of ECCO - the European CanCer Organisation, the launch of the European Academy of Cancer Sciences was one of the highlights at the opening of the ECCO - ESMO Multidisciplinary Congress on 21st September, 2009 in Berlin, Germany.
