Ulrik Ringborg (UR) is Senior Professor of Oncology at Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, and Director of Cancer Center Karolinska, a structure for translational cancer research. He is at present Secretary General of the European Academy of Cancer Sciences. UR was Head, Division of Oncology, Karolinska Hospital and Prefect, Department of Oncology-Pathology, Karolinska Institutet, as well as President of the European Society of Skin Cancer Prevention and President of the Organization of European Cancer Institutes. He coordinated the EurocanPlatform project.
Other appointments and responsibilities: Chairman of the Swedish Melanoma Study Group, member of the Nobel Assembly, member of the Executive Group of the Karolinska Hospital, Chairman of the Development of National Guidelines for Cancer within the Swedish National Board of Health and Welfare, Chairman of the Investigation of Radiotherapy of Cancer at the Swedish Council on Technology Assessment in Healthcare, member of the Scientific Advisory Committee of the EORTC, member of the Research Board and Governing Body of the Stockholm Cancer Society, member of the Research Board and the Governing Body of the King Gustaf V Jubilee Fund, vice Chairman of the Research Board and the Governing Body of the Swedish Cancer Society, member of the Advisory Board for UV-protection, Swedish Radiation Protection Authority, member of the Policy Committee of the European CanCer Organisation and Chairman of the Scientific Advisory Board of the German Cancer Consortium.
His main research focus has been on malignant melanoma. UR has published 300 research articles and book chapters.
