Methodology for designation of Excellence of comprehensive cancer centres
Excellence is the core requirement for designating comprehensive cancer centres, but a methodology for assessing excellence is missing to date. The European Commission has requested that key criteria for excellence be developed so that Europe’s comprehensive cancer centres are guaranteed to be of the highest calibre.
The pressing issue is how to develop up-to-date quality criteria and a methodology for assaying the criteria. A strategy is at present lacking and the expertise within the European Academy of Cancer Sciences can be used to outline an approach for this important problem.
